Why Ascent Exists
This Started as a Personal Rescue Story
Over the years, we've seen the same pattern repeat itself —capable, driven people who appear successful on the outside but feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck on the inside. People carrying more than they were ever meant to carry.
We've experienced this personally. At one point in my own journey, I found myself in a season of internal chaos—trying to hold everything together while quietly losing clarity, peace, and a sense of purpose. Over time, mounting pressure, exhaustion, and stress led to isolation, self-medication, strained relationships at home, and a growing loss of joy.
And yet, that season became a turning point.
What we discovered—through counseling, coaching, community, and faith—is that real change doesn't come from white-knuckling your way forward and hoping for the best. It comes from having the courage to pause, reflect, and do the deeper work most of us were never taught how to do.
That's why we created ASCENT - to guide others on this important journey.
We believe that walking alongside others isn't just work—it's a calling we've stepped into. We believe living with clarity, freedom, and purpose is possible, even after long seasons of confusion or burnout. And we believe every meaningful journey needs a safe place to stop, breathe, and regain perspective.
ASCENT was created to be that place.
A place where you can slow down, get honest, and begin moving forward with intention—toward a life marked by freedom, purpose, and wholeness.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is ASCENT clinical therapy?
Yes and no.
ASCENT Coaching is not clinical therapy. Our coaching offerings focus on personal, emotional, and spiritual development—helping people grow in self-awareness, resilience, and healthier ways of thinking, relating, and living.
That said, we do offer traditional counseling services through Cheree Whaley, MSW, LCSW, and we're connected to trusted therapists with a variety of specialties when referrals are appropriate.
Is ASCENT a religious organization?
While the co-founders have a faith background, ASCENT is not a religious organization. People from all backgrounds and life experiences are welcome here.
We often say, "All are welcome at the table."
Is financial support available?
Yes. We're happy to work with you on payment plans or installment options. If the program you're interested in still feels financially out of reach, please reach out—we're always open to a conversation about next steps.
Will my participation with ASCENT be confidential?
Absolutely. Confidentiality matters deeply to us.
Outside of the ASCENT team—and any group cohort you intentionally participate in—what you share remains private and under your control. Any disclosure beyond that happens only at your discretion.
How do I know if ASCENT is right for me?
That's a great question—and a common one.
You can explore our offerings on the Services page, or schedule a free introductory call with us. We'll answer your questions, listen to your story, and help you discern a wise next step—no pressure, no obligation.
Do you accept insurance?
Currently, ASCENT operates as a private-pay practice. This allows us to offer more personalized, flexible care without the limitations often required by insurance providers. We can provide documentation if you plan to submit for out-of-network reimbursement.
What's the difference between coaching and counseling?
Coaching tends to focus on growth, goals, and forward movement—helping you gain clarity and build healthier patterns moving forward. Counseling often focuses more on processing past experiences, emotional health, and mental well-being.
Some people benefit from a blend of both, and we're happy to help you determine what's most appropriate for your situation.
Who do you typically work with for coaching?
We work with individuals who feel stuck, overwhelmed, burned out, or disconnected—often high-functioning people who appear "fine" on the outside but know something needs to change on the inside.
You don't have to be in crisis to begin this work.
Do you offer group experiences or retreats?
Yes. In addition to one-on-one coaching and counseling sessions, ASCENT offers group cohorts and retreat experiences designed to provide space for deeper reflection, connection, and growth.
Custom, exclusive retreats can also be made available for organizations looking to do a team event.
Details vary by season—visit our Services page or contact us to learn what's currently available.
What if I'm not sure what I need?
That's completely normal.
You don't need to have it all figured out before reaching out. A simple conversation is often the best place to start—and we'll help you clarify what kind of support makes the most sense for you.
